FEIKKO * Hivern 2016

The year 2016 is coming to its end so it’s time to reflect. I would like to share some words about this ceramic adventure called Feikko, and also present some of my latest sculptures that are already available at Oslo.

Feikko was born one year ago from the desire to mix three dimensional forms and drawing. More than just do illustrated pottery, I felt drawn to idea of working with sculpture and also to understand relation between art and crafts.

On the other side I was motivated by the possibility to offer a unique piece of art that could be affordable.

The word Feikko came from a Portuguese expression Feitiço that means object with magical powers. Until now I was inspired by the way that ancient cultures combine the ritual and functional role of everyday objects. Some sculptures, for example, are influenced by Egyptian canopic jars, but with sweet and funny touch.

To shape the forms I use so called coiling technique that consists in forming cylindrical stripes from clay and placing one stripe on top of another. Many sculptors and artisans still use this ancient procedure as an alternative to wheel-throwing method. Personally, I enjoy the idea of being capable to create an object without complicated tools or technical knowledge.

Right now I work with stoneware and high-firing black refractory clay witch has great resistance and intensity of colour. My will is to try something new every time I work, adding new ideas to the previous ones. Every sculpture is hand-painted and unique. Hope you like them!

See you soon at Oslo!
